About us

International Synergies Ltd (ISL) was established in 2005 to identify, develop and deliver industrial ecology based solutions for industry worldwide; applying knowledge and expertise across a number of key areas:

  • resource efficiency
  • policy development
  • research and education
  • corporate responsibility
  • industrial symbiosis
  • other areas of applied industrial ecology

Innovative projects
Our projects are acknowledged for the contribution they make towards boosting international economies whilst delivering significant environmental and social benefits including reducing the greenhouse gases that cause climate change.

ISL manages projects across the globe – in the UK and rest of Europe, China, Mexico and the USA.

Academia
ISL has strong links with the world’s academic community. It played host to the Third International Industrial Symbiosis Research Symposium in 2006, the first to be hosted outside the academic community. ISL works closely with universities across the globe, including Yale, Boston, Surrey, Birmingham Robert Gordon to ensure that theory and practice develop hand in hand
.

ISL's flagship programme the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) is registered as part of an Engineering Doctorate Programme at the University of Surrey.

Research and Development within NISP is supported through involvement with the Environmental Technology Engineering Doctorate (EngD) Programme at the University of Surrey and the work of two NISP based EngD students; David Cobbledick and Paul Jensen. The EngD work is being conducted under the project titles 'Multi-Criteria Decision Support for Industrial Symbiosis Development' (David Cobbledick) and 'Incorporating Industrial Symbiosis into Regional Resource Planning' (Paul Jensen). Financial support for this is provided jointly by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and NISP.

People
In order to provide pioneering but practical solutions to industry, ISL employs the highest calibre of personnel. All are experts in their respective areas which include aerospace, chemistry, construction, engineering, environmental management, research and technology.
