The award was presented by the Duke of Gloucester to Peter Laybourn, International Synergies Chief Executive and Gary Foster of Scott Wilson, who submitted the joint entry in its capacity as NISP delivery partner in three English regions.
Over the last four and a half years NISP has worked with its 12,500
UK members to help deliver key environmental policies for the government; diverting 6 million tonnes of business waste from landfill, reducing industrial carbon emissions by 5.7 million tonnes and preventing the use of 8.7 million tonnes of virgin materials for input into industrial processes.
However, it is the economic benefits that NISP has generated for its members and the economy as a whole that sets it apart. NISP member companies have increased their sales by almost £160 million and generated cost savings of £143 million as a result of participating in the programme.
Peter Laybourn said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we have been acknowledged at these awards.
“NISP’s success here in the UK has provided the catalyst for the speedy uptake of similar projects across the globe in countries such as China, Mexico, Brazil, Romania and Hungary and this is what we’re celebrating today.
“It is home grown British expertise and talent that is behind the development of NISP.The programme has grown from a regional pilot scheme to national programme and now is enjoying wider international success and is regarded as a world leader by the European Commission, international governments and the academic world.”
The British Expertise International Awards are designed to publicise the continuing success of
UK professional services throughout the world and to showcase some of the outstanding projects being carried out. An award ceremony was held at The Institute of Directors in
London.
