The European Energy Trophy presents a challenge to individuals and groups working in offices throughout Europe to reduce the amount of energy consumed in their offices, save money and ultimately reduce the environmental impacts of business. This novel competition, which is funded by the European Commission provides ISL with an effective channel to start to change the way individuals in the business community think about energy use at work.
Now in its second year, the Trophy invites UK companies and municipalities to compete with the rest of Europe and reduce its office energy bills by encouraging staff members to be more energy efficient and conscious at work and as a result reduce the amount of power used as part of their everyday business practices.
Centrica Business Services beat off competition from 42 companies across Europe to win the inaugural European Energy Trophy in 2005, reducing its energy consumption by over 30% and making an annual saving of £16,000 simply by turning off all lights and office equipment in the evenings and at weekends.
This year's competition will assess the energy saved by each participating company between September 1st 2007 and 31st August 2008. The UK business with the largest reduction of cost to its baseline energy use over the year will win £2000, and go on to compete with other European companies for additional cash prizes.
