International Synergies presented with the edie.net “Sustainability Product Innovation: Resources” award

Since 2007, specialist sustainability publishing house Faversham House have organised the edie.net Sustainability Leaders awards. The awards aim to reward organisations embedding sustainability in their operations, business models and products; the winners ought to be the vanguard of sustainability, driving demonstrable results through innovation, engagement, and a commitment to doing business better.

The Sustainability Product Innovation award recognises excellence in both sustainability products and sustainably-designed products, as well as improvements to existing offers and innovative partnerships between suppliers and other stakeholders to provide holistic solutions. The category was so well subscribed this year that, for the first time, it was divided into energy and resources.

International Synergies won the Resources category with its SYNERGie resource management database. SYNERGie 1.0 is a web-based resource reuse database delivering sustainability and business benefits for companies by enabling identification and advancement of resource reuse opportunities. Its successor SYNERGie 2.0 is under development through Horizon 2020 project SHAREBOX. SYNERGie software hosts resource information from 30,000 companies across 22 countries on 6 continents. Quantified impacts in England alone include over £1 billion cost savings, £1 billion revenue generation, and 42 million tonnes carbon avoided. SYNERGie is the most successful tool of its type in the world, deriving from its innovative and practical design by leading resource efficiency experts.

SYNERGie® has been used by many industry sectors to advance resource efficiency, bringing cost savings, reducing supply risks and improving sustainability.  Its primary function is to overcome information barriers: the lack of knowledge within one company or sector about opportunities within another company or sector to move the (waste) resource up the value chain.   A categorisation system for non-material resources is included to enable the reuse of equipment and other non-waste assets.

Therefore, International Synergies is honoured to be the 2017 winners of the “Sustainability Product Innovation: Resources” award. No stranger to the edie awards, Chief Executive Peter Laybourn won the “Sustainable Leader (Person)” award in 2013; and in 2010, International Synergies’ NISP won the edie.net award for Carbon Reduction Project.
