UK Study visit from the BEBKA region in Turkey

International Synergies hosted the Turkish Development Agency BEBKA (representing the regions of Bursa, Eskisehir and Bilicek) as they enjoyed a week of visits in the West Midlands centred around Birmingham from the 20 – 23 February.

The visit was the final part of a three-part contract from the British Council/Newton Fund/BEBKA for International Synergies to train organisations in the BEBKA region on industrial symbiosis, take out UK companies and speakers to an industrial symbiosis conference in Turkey (attended by over 250 delegates) and finally to host an industrial symbiosis study tour based principally in the GBSLEP area. In addition to BEBKA the 15 person delegation included representatives from three major Turkish universities, the Provincial Director of Eskisehir and several industry associations.

Included in the study tour were visits to EBRI, Tyseley Environmental Enterprise Zone, Recycled UK, Alutrade, Ricoh UK Products and Veolia.  The group were also able to meet with organisations including the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City Council, GBSLEP, Highways England and Oakdene Hollins and representatives from the Department of International Trade and the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
