Industrial Symbiosis and Circular Economy in Fertilizers

Every year, millions of tons of valuable by-products are used by our sector as raw materials for making high quality finished mineral fertilizers. This event will bring together industry experts, EU legislators and national authorities for presentations of case studies on practical uses of by-products. The participants will have the opportunity for a creative exchange-of-views on different ways to improve the fertilizer regulation and ensure a continuation of good circular practices and economy.

Jacob Hansen, Director General of Fertilizers Europe will provide the opening speech and keynote speaker Francois-Michel Lambert, President of the French Institute will set the scene for circular economy. Dr Rachel Lombardi will present on the role of industrial symbiosis in the circular economy,  followed by various company best practice case studies, including:

  • Ammonium Sulphate – from BASF
  • Intergrated production of fertilizer – from Fertiberia
  • Sulfric acid – from Solvakem Chemicals Recycling Solutions
  • Rockwool and Grodan – from Grodan

During the afternoon the political agenda will be discussed and Tatu Liimatainen, Cabinet of Vice-President Katainen will provide a question and answer session, followed by a panel debate looking for political solutions and the way forward.

The event will take place at the Radisson Red Hotel, Rue d’ldalie 35, 1050 Brussels, with registration at 10.00 am and concluding at 15.45 pm.
